Passionate about delivering clear, accurate communication, Jessica Swenson is a collaborative, detail-oriented writer and proofreader. Her writing experience includes user-focused technical writing, internal corporate branding guides, pitch and design decks, professional branding documents, and online content. She was once described by a peer as inquisitive and fearless in the pursuit of information
and embraces that descriptor whenever possible.
With a background in retail project deployment, visual communications, and technical document development, Jessica has extensive experience collecting technical information from subject matter experts and organizing it into streamlined, intuitive documentation. She is passionate about proactively answering clients’ and users’ questions through intentional, accurate communications.
Over time she grew into project and program management roles where she oversaw complex projects and managed client relationships for startup design agencies. She flourished in this space by using strong interpersonal skills to cultivate and grow client engagements while keeping partners informed and projects on task.
Woven into every role she’s ever held is a love for the written word, and frequent use of her proofreading and editing skills. Jessica has authored client pitch decks and global merchandising playbooks, contributed to comprehensive brand guideline documents, and has been called upon to review countless emails, documents, graphics, engineering drawings, and more.
In 2021, Jessica pivoted from the project management world back to writing and proofreading—by way of an executive branding firm. She began as a writer creating résumés, cover letters, online profiles, and biographies; in just over two years she was mentoring a team of six other writers and contributing to problem-solving and process improvement initiatives. She has since expanded into content development and strategy for a third-party retail support organization, where she not only creates content but reviews others’ content and coaches her peers.
In addition to diversifying her portfolio through content strategy, development, and proofreading, Jessica also intends to one day use her powers for good as a grant writer.
Since 2017 she has served as an active board member for a trauma-informed therapy and healing nonprofit based in St. Paul, Minnesota. In addition to the usual board activities, she manages the proofreading and posting of periodic practitioner blogs and executes general website updates via Squarespace.
Jessica holds an MBA from Western Governors University, a Certificate in Copyediting from University of California San Diego, and is a Certified Professional Résumé Writer (CPRW) through PARWCC. She graduated in the top 11% of Proofread Anywhere’s General Proofreading program.
Jessica lives in Northeast Indiana with her husband, two cats, and a dog. She hopes to someday actually complete The Artist’s Way.
